The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur, often known as NITJSR or NIT Jamshedpur, is a technical education institution of national significance situated in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. Originally founded on August 15, 1960, as a Regional Institute of Technology, it was elevated to the status of a Deemed University on December 27, 2002, when it became the National Institute of Technology (NIT). Since it is one of India’s 31 NITs, the Ministry of Education (MHRD) has direct jurisdiction over it. It is the third of eight NITs that the Indian government developed as part of the Second Five Year Plan (1956–1961).
