NCAME, which was founded in 2017 as a result of a partnership between Auburn University and NASA, is essential to closing the knowledge gap between basic and application research in metal additive manufacturing. In order to propel breakthroughs in AM standards and technologies, NCAME, a founding partner of the ASTM Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (ASTM AM CoE), cultivates international partnerships with business, government, academia, and nonprofit groups.

Doctoral Program Positions in USA

  • Fabrication of parts using laser powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, and cold spray techniques.
  • Mechanical testing of AM components, including tensile and fatigue assessments.
  • Materials characterization with microscopy, X-ray computed tomography, and diffraction methods.
  • In-situ monitoring using optical systems to analyze AM processes and part quality in real-time.
  • Simulations involving finite element and crystal plasticity models to predict AM part performance.

Qualification

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related fields.
  • A strong background in solids mechanics and materials science.
  • Experience or knowledge in fatigue, fracture mechanics, and numerical modeling.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or in teams.
