In 1989, the Government of India established Nagaland University as a Central University in the state of Nagaland through an Act of Parliament. The company’s headquarters are located in Lumami, Zünheboto District. Meriema (near Kohima) and Medziphema are the locations of two additional permanent campuses. Additionally, there is a temporary campus in Dimapur that provides B. Tech courses. The university is affiliated with 70 colleges, which collectively have a student body of approximately 24,000 individuals.
